On the 31st of August we join with our partners to commemorate International Overdose Awareness Day. We are grateful that the National Department of Social Development has recognised SANPUD as a strategic partner, and is also acknowledging IOAD. To mark International Overdose Awareness Day, SANPUD and the National Department of Social Development, in collaboration with the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pretoria, have launched three videos on drug use during the COVID-19 pandemic. The videos are part of a series produced by Prof Tessa Marcus. The series of videos will be available in five local languages. They are free for distributions and sharing. Please feel free to use them as you see fit. for more videos, click here.

In Memoriam

Below are some of our friends who have died. None of them has died of old-age. Using unregulated drugs has negative consequences caused by lack of appropriate services, stigma , risks related to marginalisation, assault and arrest. The criminalisation of people who use drugs has an indirect or direct affect on most of the drug-related dangers people who use drugs face.

On International Overdose Awareness Day, we recognise all these factors are largely due to an overdose of prohibition, the most dangerous drug of all.
