This year on November 26th, you are invited to join us in standing in solidarity with Women Who Use Drugs, as part of the global #16DaysOfActivism campaign to highlight Gender-Based Violence!
Starting point: Mouille Point Lighthouse
This year, in Cape Town, you’re invited to participate in the SANPUD FEMALIVE Commemorative Silent Walk, supported by Women & Harm Reduction International Network and the 16 Days Of Activism organisation, which will highlight the plight of Women Who Use Drugs and the violence they face on the streets of our country. Our Walk is being supported by Women Harm Reduction International Network, EuroNPUD, Youth Rise, and the Global 16 Days Campaign.
JOIN US ON THE DAY TO STAND IN SOLIDARITY Our Commemorative Silent Walk will take place in Seapoint, Cape Town, at 1pm on Friday November 26th starting at Mouille Point Lighthouse. Everyone is welcome. After the Walk, a representative from the Woodstock SAPS will lead a self-defense session to enable women to protect themselves, and all will be invited to sign a declaration to end violence against women who use drugs. Also available on the day will be refreshments, as well as the opportunity to donate women’s commodities and infant supplies to those in need. The following commodities are particularly welcomed as donations:
Our Walk is about standing together and saying, "MY BODY, MY PROPERTY!' – and we invite you to join us!
Wear Your T-Shirt With Pride On The Day!
If you plan to participate in person on the day, and registered by November 18th to secure a T-shirt in your size, our team will be on hand to hand you your T-shirt, to wear during our Walk, in order to increase visibility of our cause, and raise the voice of women who use drugs who have been the victim of Gender-Based Violence in South Africa and beyond. For those that can’t join us in person, you’re invited to participate even if you can’t be physically present, by posting your Photos, videos and messages of support and solidarity on our Facebook Event Page that will be shared across our social media channels. Share Your Pics, Videos - and Use Our Hashtags! When posting (during or after the event), you're invited to use the hashtags below, to help amplify our voice against Gender-Based Violence: #16DaysOfActivism #RatifyILO190 #LetsEndFemicide #SilentWalk COVID protocols: As the pandemic is still very much a reality, we will be observing all the usual protocols during our gathering and walk. Please help us in keeping infections down by doing your bit. Black masks will be provided for all participating. Whatever The Weather We know that the Seapoint Promenade can be sunny, windy - and even occasionally rainy. Plan ahead: bring an umbrella, for sun or rain, just in case - and because they create a visual spectacle, which is what we want! Keep an eye on our Facebook Event Page for updates - we look forward to having you participate on the day!
